Nature Serving Nature

the currents are swiftly pushing
the ocean’s waves
into the barren rocks
the waters breaking into showers
then into cold salty mists.

there are ancient caves within
sculpted by the tides
from when the underground rocks
were pushed to rise
into towering heights
delineating the land and sea

were there dragons then
or nymphs and mermaids
ruled by the ancient Gods
endowed with specific powers?
their myths continue to this day.

as the sea cradles life
nature has since evolved
from the one-celled creature
to the complex beasts
all breathing the same air.

the intelligent man stands out
alone, with a soul endowed
by an Absolute power
to serve a purpose
of nature serving nature
as man and beast co-exists.

I, Lotus Blossom

i am the lotus
deeply rooted in the mud
rivers, lakes and ponds.

my stems grow upright
strength holding my sprawling leaves
warm sun nurtures me

my bud sprouts upwards
like a hand clasp in prayer
seeking the light.

my petals open
to the vastness of the mind
being awakened.

my blossoms exude
“beauty, grace and majesty”
cosmic harmony.

my lotus flowers
symbol of “prosperity”
joy and compassion.

my petals detach
from desires and sufferings
as my day enfolds.

at my core are seeds
promising to sustain souls
in perpetuity.

i, lotus blossom
from the murky depths i rise
unscathed, unstained, pure.

Garden

the roses now are in bloom
and the butterflies fly
in multicolored brightness
and here i am…
pricked
with the thorns of memories
in your garden
of songs and verses.

Benedicta Ruiz

Benedicta Ruiz:  Through the years, Benedicta Ruiz has included Nature and its various facets as part of her poetry and other writings. To her she is inspired by its grandeur as well perplexed with its fury and serenity. She tries to connect with Nature with the awareness that she is indeed an integral part of it, a part of Mother Earth and the whole universe.
