April’s Bifurcated Trunks

limbs   open   freed
press up toward the sky
extend   wide apart   shameless
sap creeps over rings   below bark skin
woken by the warmth of Spring
and moss feathers coppiced cracks
vee-shaped   vital    furred
stirred       I see my female form
reflected upside down
through thrumming thrusts
of newly wakened trees

Snow Eagle

Her eyes sweep the skies. Hailstones fall hard, muss her neck’s feathered skirts. She wheels wide, climbs high. So high, air thins. Below, wimpled peaks pierce her sight. Her round breast swells, muscle-taut and strong. She holds her perfect arc, then stalls: hovers, centres, swoops.
