April’s Bifurcated
Trunks
limbs open
freed
press
up toward the sky
extend wide apart
shameless
sap
creeps over rings below bark skin
woken
by the warmth of Spring
and
moss feathers coppiced cracks
vee-shaped vital
furred
stirred I see my female form
reflected
upside down
through
thrumming thrusts
of
newly wakened trees
Snow Eagle
Her
eyes sweep the skies. Hailstones fall hard, muss her neck’s feathered skirts.
She wheels wide, climbs high. So high, air thins. Below, wimpled peaks pierce
her sight. Her round breast swells, muscle-taut and strong. She holds her
perfect arc, then stalls: hovers, centres, swoops.
